The Fairbanks Recycling Task Force has two important meetings coming up and our fellow Sustainable Community Action Network (SCAN) Fairbanks group is also having a meeting. Here are the details:
The next meeting of the Fairbanks Recycling Task Force will be at the FNSB Assembly Chambers on Friday, January 11, 2008 from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM. We will hear from Mayor Whitaker and FNSB staff and from past Recycling Task Force members regarding their views on recycling in the Fairbanks North Star Borough past, present and future. Prior to the meeting, the minutes from our previous introductory meeting will be posted on this website. Minutes collected from this meeting will also be posted here on a later date.
The next meeting of the (SCAN) Sustainable Community Round Table is on Sunday, January 13, 2008 from 1:00 to 6:00 PM. at the Wood Center Ballroom at UAF. Parking is free. The discussion will be based on The Natural Step for Communities, by Sarah James and Torbjorn Lahti. If you would like to purchase a copy of their wonderful book, please email Mike Musick at mike@cchrc.org. SCAN Fairbanks is a great group and we like to support like-minded organizations throughout our community.
On Saturday, February 2, 2008, Ground Hog’s Day, from 1:00 to 4:00 PM the Recycling Task Force will host a community-wide discussion on recycling in the Fairbanks North Star Borough at the Wood Center Ballroom.
We will make it a common practice to post information about our meetings and additional events on this blog so come back frequently for updates!

Pam Seiser wrote an excellent summary of the recycling topics brought up in our first introductive meeting.
In her summary, you will find information on the two major interests posed by the group:
- What should happen once materials reach the transfer stations
- Preventing reusable materials from being placed in FBSB Landfills
View Pam’s report here.
Thanks Pam!
